Elaine Geall - Contemporary Animal Artist

Elaine is a professional artist working on a variety of surfaces in fast-drying oils (alkyds), acrylics and occasionally drawing media. The majority of her work consists of animal portraiture, natural history and ornithological subject matters.

Having been born in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the south of England, where she still resides, Elaine successfully completed her National and Higher National Diploma courses in illustration at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art before persuing her career as an artist.

Armed with camera and a sketch book, Elaine's compositions are loosely based around her own field references of local fauna and flora, she encounters from frequenting some of her favourite haunts around Dorset and Hampshire.

She is generally inspired by the narratives of the seasons and her subjects, whether it be carpets of wild flowers on a woodland floor or seabirds on coastal cliffs in spring, butterflies, nightjars and glow-worms on warm summer evenings, rutting stags in the New Forest during the autumn or the large congregations of waders and waterfowl on coastal shores and estuaries during the winter months. However, when the inspiration is there, she will happily turn her attention to other subjects and has just started to venture in to equestrian art to further extend her existing portfolio.

    Exhibitions

Elaine exhibits regularly both locally and nationally, and has been a member of the Marwell International Wildlife Art Society with whom she has successfully exhibited for a number of years. She has also had work juried into the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art.
